Pitt's Jamie Dixon Bullish On Backcourt To Start Season
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - As the Pitt Panthers begin the basketball season, head coach Jamie Dixon joins Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.
Coach Dixon thinks the strength of the Panthers right now lies in its backcourt.
"I really do feel good about our perimeter," he says. "I had questions last year, especially at the two-spot. This year, it just seems like the guys we needed to improve--Cameron Wright, specifically, are much better."
"I think we shoot it better than we ever have. Cameron is a better shooter, obviously Lamar (Patterson) is a good shooter. You throw Durand Johnson in there. We have two point guards who shoot it well. We're a more skilled team than we have been," Dixon said.
Even though Dixon has plenty on his plate as the Panthers begin the regular season, he found himself watching some NBA games earlier this week.
"How about the game last night? You saw (former Panthers) Steven Adams and DeJuan Blair going against each other, the Mavericks and the Thunder going head-to-head," Dixon said. "That was fun to watch."
With Adams now playing for the Oklahoma City Thunder, some are concerned about how the Panthers will be able to match up with the big bodies in the ACC.
"We'll be probably just as big or bigger than everybody. As I look around the ACC, there aren't a lot of seven-footers anywhere. This year we'll probably be bigger than everybody at the same spot, and just as big at the five."Dixon said.
