Pitt's Jamel Artis Named ACC Player Of The Week
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Coming off a week in which he averaged 26 points along with 8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3 steals per game, Pitt sophomore Jamel Artis has been named the ACC Player of the Week.
Leading the Panthers to a pair of victories against Bryant (72-67) and Syracuse (83-77), Artis shot 58 percent and put up a career-high of 32 points against Bryant.
Artis talked about his hot shooting of late saying "I just got in a rhythm shooting the basketball, making shots, my guys believe in me."
Artis also put together his first career double-double against Syracuse when he scored 20 and got 10 rebounds.
"I'm finding the right spots on the floor," Artis said. "Taking the right shots, making the right passes and also getting their defenders to collapse on me and making other guys shoot the basketball as well."
Artis says thing just feel different to him this year.
"I feel a lot more comfortable this year, I'm getting a lot more minutes and I feel like the guys need me this season."
Pitt head coach Jamie Dixon talked about Artis winning the award saying "It was quite an honor for ACC Player of the Week. I told the guys before practice and that was all good news."
Artis has also helped get the Panthers back into the NCAA Tournament talk as before their most recent three-game winning streak, many were doubting they'd make it to the big dance this year.
The Panthers will be back in action this Wednesday when they travel to the nation's ninth ranked team in Louisville for an ACC matchup.
Duke Freshman Justise Winslow was also named the ACC Rookie of the Week.
