Pitt WR Devin Street Says Win Over Notre Dame Is So Satisfying
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- Pitt wide receiver Devin Street joined The Fan Morning Show on Wednesday to recap the win over Notre Dame, but he is also looking ahead to UNC this Saturday.
"It was really satisfying," Street said. He had not been on a team that has beat Notre Dame in his previous four years, which is why he is so happy to get one in his senior season.
Devin says he and quarterback Tom Savage are on the same page. He says they feel comfortable with each other and his job is to make sure that he runs detailed routes and gets open for him. He said when Savage has been able to get time, he has delivered the ball to him.
He knows Tom has been through a lot this year with taking some big hits and hearing the criticism, but he hasn't let it get to him. He has stayed the course and kept the team moving forward.
"We all know what he is capable of," Street said. "He is really going to go out with a bang in these last three games."
Street says Savage has all the tools to play at the next level.
"It's a blessing to work with him," Street said. "I would want nobody else as my quarterback."
Street also is trying to stay focused on these final games instead of looking too hard into his future at the next level. He admits that he has really had to work on not letting the thoughts of the future to get him because it was causing him stress.
He says his decision to return to Pitt for his fifth year was to make sure he did everything right and became a leader. He also admits that he had his eye on a couple of Pitt receiving records.
"I want to be No. 1," Street said. "It's an accomplishment I wanted to achieve. I have one and another to get."
Street says he owes a great deal of his success to both Coach Engram and Coach Chryst. He said he and Engram crossed paths for a reason and he has done a great job of showing him the way. Coach Chryst says he has always preached to them to do things the right way and that is what he does everyday.
He thinks Pitt is in good hands in the future and may have one of the best wide receivers to come through Pitt in Tyler Boyd.
