Pitt Women Advance In NCAAs
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) -- Entering the season, not much was expected of the Pitt women's basketball team. It was projected to finish dead last in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Fast-forward to the postseason, and the Panthers are among the final 32 schools still dancing in the NCAA Tournament.
Holding No. 7 seed Chattanooga to 26 percent shooting from the field, No. 10 Pitt in the Spokane region, upset the Mocs, 51-40, in Knoxville. Chattanooga never held a lead and had won 25 consecutive games entering the tournament, the same scenario it faced last year before losing to Syracuse in the opening round.
Stasha Carey led Pitt with 16 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots.
With 13 points, Brianna Kiesel became the first Pitt women's player to record 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 400 assists.
Pitt plays No. 2 Tennessee on Monday.
