Pitt Researcher Going To Trial For Wife's Poisoning Death
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pitt researcher accused of poisoning and killing his wife with cyanide in April will go to trial.
Friday morning, Robert Ferrante waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the case, with a formal arraignment set for Nov. 6.
Ferrante is accused of killing his wife, UPMC Chief of Women's Neurology Autumn Klein with "toxic levels" of cyanide.
Ferrante was taken into custody in July along Interstate 77 in Beckley, W. Va., and later returned to Pittsburgh.
In August, a judge decided that Ferrante will not have custody of his and Klein's 6-year-old daughter and that she will instead stay with Klein's parents, Lois and William Klein.
A judge also froze more than $2 million in assets belonging to Ferrante and Klein, but leaving $300,000 free for Ferrante's legal defense.
Ferrante faces criminal homicide charges.
