Pitt Remains No. 4 In AP Top 25

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - After seeing the top four top ranked teams in men's college basketball suffered a loss last week, the Duke Blue Devils were able to jump from No. 5 to No. 1 in this week's AP Top 25 Poll.

Duke regained the top after starting the season at No. 1 and remaining there for the first eight weeks. The jump from No. 5 to No. 1 was the biggest since November 2003 when Kansas went to sixth to the top spot.

Duke received 35 first place votes, followed by Pittsburgh with 12 votes, Ohio State 10 votes, Kansas  five votes, BYU two votes and Texas with one vote..

Despite the 12 first place votes, Pitt remained in fourth place in the AP poll behind Ohio State and Kansas. The Texas Longhorns finished out the Top 5.

San Diego State, BYU, Purdue, Notre Dame ad Arizona round out the Top Ten in the AP poll.

After beating Pitt on Saturday, the St. John's Red Storm were back in the Top 25 for the first time in over a decade at No. 23.

With St. John's entering the Top 25 rankings, it gives the Big East eight ranked teams, four more than the Big 12 and five more than the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference.

The eight ranked Big East teams are: Pittsburgh No. 4, Notre Dame No. 9, Georgetown No. 11, UConn No. 14, Villanova No. 15, Louisville No. 16, Syracuse No. 17 and St. John's No. 23.
