Pitt, Penn State To Go Head To Head 2 More Years
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University are adding two years to the renewal of their football rivalry.
Along with playing in 2016 and 2017, they agreed today to play in 2018 at Heinz Field and 2019 in Beaver Stadium.
"It would be hard to find a college football fan anywhere who is not excited about this announcement," Pitt Athletic Director Steve Pederson said in a statement.
"The Penn State-Pitt game was a premier rivalry that was anticipated by college football fans across Pennsylvania and the nation," Penn State Athletic Director Dave Joyner said. "There are more than 50,000 Penn State alumni and fans in Western Pennsylvania and we look forward to playing in their backyard."
The series began in 1893 with Penn State leading 50-42-4.
The teams haven't played since 2000, a 12-0 Pitt victory.
