University Of Pittsburgh Police Investigating Two Off-Campus Burglaries
OAKLAND (KDKA) -- University of Pittsburgh Police are investigating after two off-campus burglaries in 24 hours.
They are the fifth and sixth burglaries near the university in one week.
According to campus safety alerts, one burglary occurred in the 5800 block of Elwood Street between 8 a.m and 10 p.m Friday.
The other occurred in the 3600 block of Dawson Street between 8:30 p.m. on Friday and 12:30 a.m on Saturday.
Police say there were no signs of forced entry in either case.
"It does make me worry if you have windows that you can't lock or just have any cash in your house, which who doesn't," said Pitt senior Emily Stern.
Some Pitt students said they had noticed more campus safety alerts recently.
"I was just surprised," said junior David Goehring. "I knew robberies happened and everything, but apartment buildings, I thought, were a little tougher to get into."
In the past month, Jimmy Johns and Brueggers Bagels on campus were robbed. Police arrested Sean Beach earlier this week in connection with those robberies and seven others in the Pittsburgh areas.
Police are reminding everyone in the area to lock their doors and windows, and to report anything suspicious.
