Pitt Football Head Coach Todd Graham Talks Panther Football, PSU Rivalry
PITTSBURGH (Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN) -- Pitt Football Coach Todd Graham joined Seibel, Starkey, and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN to talk about the upcoming season and the progress of his players at this point in the year.
Todd Graham talked about the preparation of his team right now saying character and work ethic are all a big part of their program and he as a coach likes to focus on these aspects of the game along with the players. Graham spoke of the mental toughness he wants his players to have especially when it comes to the fourth quarter, being able to finish games at full speed. He spoke about the importance of training camp as an opportunity for the players to continue working on their "high-octane" offense.
When asked about bringing in highly-touted recruit Ejuan Price because of his recent withdrawal from his letter of intent to Ohio State University, Graham said he is very excited and expects him to be a great outside linebacker for the Panthers. He also talked about the leadership skills the young player has, pointing out the fact Price was the captain in the Big 33 game.
Graham spoke briefly about Dan Mason and Anthony Gonzalez, saying Mason is recovering better than any one expected, and Gonzalez is suspended indefinitely and will not be making any further comment at this time.
When asked about QB Tony Sunseri, Graham said he needs to set the standard for character on the field and wants him to focus on managing the game and work on not turning the ball over.
Graham finished the conversation talking about the rival game between from PITT and PSU, saying it's important for his players to understand the strong history of this game. As a self-described traditionalist, the coach said he recognizes the excitement surrounding this rivalry for the two Pennsylvania teams saying he remembers watching the game in Texas on Thanksgiving day. He then said if it was up to him, he would play Notre Dame, West Virginia University and Penn State every season.
