Pitt Coach Jamie Dixon: ACC Is Where It's At
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - It's official: the Pitt Panthers are now full-fledged members of the ACC. Pitt men's basketball head coach Jamie Dixon took a moment to celebrate with Vinnie Richichi on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.
While Dixon has fond memories of the Big East, he's also looking ahead to the ACC.
"We were in a great place that was great for us for a long period of time," Dixon says. "But the reality is that you have to be in one of these five conferences. And we are."
"If you want to be a player in major college sports--especially going forward--you need to be either in the ACC, the SEC, the Pac-12, the Big 12, or the Big 10. It's that simple. And the separation is only going to continue to grow as we go forward."
Dixon takes a look at the impact the move has already had on his program, and how he has already changed his recruiting philosophy to fit the ACC's style of play.
Dixon also reveals how proud he is of Steven Adams, who was selected twelfth overall in the NBA Draft by Oklahoma City. He also tells the inside story of spending draft day with Adams, and refuses to call losing his big man to the NBA bittersweet.
