Pitt Center Steven Adams Ready To Make College Hoops Debut
PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- Joe Starkey of Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sports Radio 93-7 The FAN sat down with Pitt freshman center Steven Adams for his first one-on-one radio interview to talk about his expectations for this season.
Adams said he feels good and is hoping for a good season. There are some nerves about making his debut, but Adams said, "I get nervous quite a lot, but I'm just learning to get used to them and use them to my advantage."
There are high expectations for Adams despite being a freshman, and he says you aren't going to please everyone, but he's only interested in fulfilling the expectations of his coach back in New Zealand and Jamie Dixon.
Adams has dealt with some adversity in his life losing his father at a young age, and described that as a wake up call that has helped turn him into the man he is today.
Head Coach Jamie Dixon played a major role in recruiting Adams to Pitt, and we heard from the star prospect about their unique relationship.
With such little known though about Pitt's new starting center heading into the season opener, he described what his game is like and what he does well.
If you look at some of the early NBA draft projections, most scouting services have Adams as a first-round selection, and potentially a lottery pick depending on how this year goes, but when asked if he's thinking about his future as a pro, Adams said that's not anything that has even crossed his mind.
Starkey wrapped things up with Adams having him tell us a little bit about his life off the court and what sort of things he's into.
