Pitcairn Business Damaged By Two Fires In One Day
PITCAIRN (KDKA) – Video from a neighbor's cell phone caught a huge smokey fire at the Pitcairn Minimart on Wall Avenue Saturday night.
"We saw the fire, smoke first, then we saw the flames," said John Dessler. "It lit the whole street up, we thought the block was going down."
Other than boarded up windows and a blue tarp on the roof, you can't tell there was a fire. But firefighters were called to the location twice and there's plenty of damage inside.
The first fire was started by a faulty compressor early in the day, causing minor damage. Then about 10 hours later, firefighters responded to a second call.
"It was in the very back right corner of the building," said volunteer fire chief Capt. Nick Turner. "And the flames started shooting through the ceiling up through the roof."
"They were saying a box caught on fire, that sparked the flames," said neighbor Alex Lowry. "I guess the person in the store couldn't put it out or prevent the fire."
In addition to the interior damage, flames also melted some siding and fixtures in the back.
