Pirates Trade For Derrek Lee
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Pirates GM Neal Huntington has made a trade in an attempt to help the struggling offense.
The Pirates and Baltimore Orioles have agreed on a trade that sends Derrek Lee to the Pirates in exchange for minor league first baseman Aaron Baker.
The deal will be official pending Lee's physical.
In 84 games with the Orioles this season, Lee is hitting .248 with 15 doubles, 12 homers and 41 RBIs.
Lee's numbers have been much more impressive since the All-Star break.
In his last 17 games, Lee, 35, is hitting .328 with 11 extra-base hits and 16 RBIs. He has hit .294 since June 17.
Baker, who's at Class A Bradenton, is hitting for a .285, 15 HR and 21 2B in 382 AB. Had 18 HR in 459 AB last year.
Baker isn't considered one of the Pirates Top 30 prospects and has been passed up by Altoona 1B Matt Curry on first baseman depth chart.
He was an 11th round pick in the 2009 draft.
