Correia Pitches Complete Game As Pirates Top Reds, 9-3
CINCINNATI (KDKA/AP) -- Kevin Correia pitched nine solid innings as the Pirates clinched their third road series, beating the Cincinnati Reds, 9-3 on Monday night.
The Pirates have won their first three road series for the first time since 2002, when they dropped 89 games.
Correia (3-1) allowed just four hits and three runs during the second complete game of his career.
The Buccos took advantage of Cincinnati's Travis Wood (1-2) during his three and 1/3 innings on the mound.
Neil Walker hit an RBI single at the top of the first. Steve Pearce then had a line drive single to left field, allowing Matt Diaz to score.
The Pirates got a third run when Chris Snyder also picked up an RBI single on a line drive to center field.
Third baseman Pearce made a throwing error, allowing Scott Rolen to score for the Reds in the bottom of the second.
Andrew McCutchen sent two runners home, hitting a double at the top of the fourth. Diaz, Pearce and Lyle Overbay also had RBIs in the same inning for an 8-1 lead.
Ronny Cedeno added a run in the fifth to make it 9-1. Cincinnati's Chris Heisey hit a two-run homer for the final score of 9-3.
The Bucs (8-8) now hit the road to play the Florida Marlins at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday.
