Pirates Top Cardinals 4-3 In 10 Innings
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh Pirates picked the perfect time to take their first lead of the game against the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday afternoon.
Pittsburgh (52-47) trailed on three different occasions, but battled back and won 4-3 on a walk-off sacrifice fly by Chase d'Arnaud in the 10th inning.
With one out in the 10th inning, Xavier Paul reached base on an infield single. Paul then stole second, but a throwing error by catcher Gerald Laird allowed Paul to advance to third base.
d'Arnaud lifted the second pitch he saw from Jason Motte to center field, which was deep enough to bring home the winning run.
The win snaps a three-game losing streak and pulls the Pirates back into a first place tie with the Cardinals (53-48) and Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Central Division.

Ronny Cedeno finished the game with two hits and two runs scored.
Charlie Morton allowed three runs on six hits while walking five and striking out three in 5 1-3 innings.
Jason Grilli, Chris Resop, Joel Hanrahan and Joe Beimel combined to allow only four hits over the final 4 2-3 innings.
Pittsburgh will now go on the road to open up a four-game series with the Atlanta Braves.
James McDonald (6-4, 4.15 ERA) is scheduled to take on Tim Hudson (9-6, 3.39 ERA) Monday at 7:10 p.m.
