Pirates Ship Away Black To Complete Waiver Deal

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) -- The Pirates on Thursday traded right-handed relief pitcher Vic Black as the player to be named to the New York Mets to complete Tuesday's trade in which Pittsburgh acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck.

Black, 25, saw his first glimpse of big-league action in 2013, working four innings in which he allowed two earned runs on six hits, striking out three and walking two.

In 38 relief appearances for Triple-A Indianapolis, chiefly as the club's closer, Black recorded 17 saves. He posted a 5-3 record with a 2.50 ERA and 1.05 WHIP.

Through 46 2/3 innings with the Indians, Black fanned 63 hitters, walked 21, and gave up just two homers.

The Pirates begin a critical weekend series with the St. Louis Cardinals at PNC Park Friday at 7:05. Coverage begins at 5:40 with "Pirates Preview," hosted by Dan Zangrilli and Kevin Orie, on your flagship home for Pirates baseball, SportsRadio 93.7 The Fan.
