Pirates Pitching Coach Gearing Up For Pitchers & Catchers Reporting
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates Pitching Coach Ray Searage joined Starkey and Miller on Sports Radio 93-7 The FAN from Florida as pitchers and catchers get set to report on Monday.
Searage told us it only takes a couple of weeks after the season is over before he gets that itch to get back out there and work with his staff.
We took a look back at last year with Searage as he gave us some grades for how his staff performed, and what adjustments will need to be made this year to stop guys from collapsing in the second half.
"I thought we did well in learning how to get the X's and O's, and going deeper into the games," he said. "We definitely need to get improvement on controlling the running game. Also be able to pitch inside more consistently."
Searage also talked about the addition of Russell Martin, and what sort of improvement you can expect to see from that position with him getting the majority of the starts.
"I believe a guy like Russell Martin can help out this pitching staff tremendously," he added. "The catcher is going to play a vital role, he is basically the backbone of the pitching staff."
We wrapped things up with Searage asking him how he expects his rotation to look this year, and when we can expect to see Gerrit Cole.
