Pirates, McCutchen Not Happy With Shelby Miller's "Cheapshot"
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - In Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals, Pirates starter Edinson Volquez hit back-to-back batters in the 4th inning as he plunked both Matt Holliday and Matt Adams.
In the top of the 6th inning, Cardinals starter Shelby Miller decided to retaliate as he threw high and behind reigning National League MVP Andrew McCutchen.
The retribution from Miller didn't go unnoticed.
"He missed me, so, no harm done," McCutchen said. "They had their shot and they missed me so we move on from there. I just missed a homer, almost. Until next time."
That's not all McCutchen had to say about the play though as he he thinks Miller would have taken it even farther if it wasn't for the warning he received from the home plate umpire.
"He better had only taken one shot for where the location of the pitch was," McCutchen added. "They had their chance, had their shot and got warned. He wasn't going to do it again and get thrown out of the game. If there was no warning, he probably would have thrown at me again."

Seeing as how this isn't the first time the Pirates have had to deal with an opponent throwing at their star player, manager Clint Hurdle addressed the situation after the game and expressed his displeasure.
"It was an ambush, it was a cheapshot," the Pirates manager said.
