Pirates Lose To Twins, 11-6
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pirates starter James McDonald got bullied by the Minnesota Twins Thursday, allowing 10 runs in an 11-6 loss.
McDonald threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up 10 runs on seven hits. He walked seven batters and surrendered a pair of home runs on the afternoon.
"Sometimes these days just happen," McDonald said, according to the team's official website. "I'm lucky it was Spring Training, and not September, or even next week. I left balls up in the zone, didn't have any of my good stuff. ... It was just a bad day for me."
Brian Dinkelman and Brian Dozier each belted two-run homers off McDonald. The two accounted for seven RBIs.
Garrett Jones drove in his 14th run of the spring for the Pirates.
Pedro Alvarez went 2-for-5 from the plate with two strikeouts to raise his spring batting average to .167. He had just one hit in his previous 21 at-bats.
