Pirates Lose To Orioles, 4-1

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pirates starter Erik Bedard had a solid outing Monday, throwing six-plus innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits.

Mark Reynolds hit a bloop single to drive in a run in the top of the seventh to get the Orioles on the board, 1-0.

Reliever Jason Grilli replaced Bedard, and a Pedro Alvarez throwing error allowed Baltimore to score a second run in the inning. Grilli, with men on second and third, followed with two strikeouts and a come back shot to end the inning.

"Erik pitched extremely well," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said, according to the team's official website. "He got his pitch count where we wanted. Then Jason [Grilli] came in where we could test his mettle with runners on base, and he handled that well."

The Pirates managed just one hit off Baltimore starter Tommy Hunter in six innings.

Garrett Jones drove in Andrew McCutchen on an infield grounder in the bottom of the seventh for the Pirates only run.

Matt Wieters and Blake Davis each singled in runs in the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, for a 4-1 Baltimore win.

The Pirates return to spring training action at 1 p.m. today against Philadelphia.
