Pirates Lose To D-Backs, 8-5
PHOENIX (KDKA/AP) -- The Pirates were unable to overcome a five-run inning by the Arizona Diamondbacks, losing 8-5 on Wednesday.
Ross Ohlendorf (1-3, 8.29 ERA) pitched just two innings and allowed seven hits, seven runs and struck out only one batter.
In all, the Pirates' bullpen gave up 11 hits and struck out four over eight innings.
Arizona took an early lead after scoring three runs in the first inning.
The Pirates attempted to start a rally in the second when Ryan Ludwig hit a home run, but then they got buried.
In the third, the Diamondbacks' Chris Young, Ryan Roberts and Aaron Hill hit a combined five RBIs.
But the Buccos didn't give up. Derek Lee had a homerun and an RBI. Andrew McCutchen and Jason Jaramillo also drove in runs.
The Pirates have Thursday off before returning to PNC Park to face the Reds Friday.
