Pirates Lose To Braves, 2-1 In 10th Inning

ATLANTA (KDKA/AP) -- The Pirates lost their second consecutive game against the Braves Wednesday night, falling 2-1 in the 10th inning.

The loss comes on the heels of a controversial call in the 19th inning of Game 2 in the series that cost the Bucs the game.

Paul Maholm (ERA 3.16) allowed nine hits and struck out eight over seven innings.

The Pirates (53-49) picked up a run on a homer by Garrett Jones in the sixth, but the Braves (61-44), tied it at the bottom of the inning when David Ross drove in Martin Prado on a single grounder.

Neither team scored again until Ross hit another RBI single with bases loaded at the bottom of the 10th.

Atlanta's Jair Jurrjens (ERA 2.38) allowed just six hits and one run over seven innings. Scott Linebrink (4-2) got the save after Eric Fryer managed a single against him in the 10th.

Chris Leroux (1-1) got the loss.

The Pirates and Braves play Game 4 of the series at 7:10 p.m. Thursday at Turner Field in Atlanta.
