Pirates Lose To Blue Jays, 8-5

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Pirates starting pitcher Erik Bedard allowed two runs and two walks in two innings Sunday as the Pirates lost to the Toronto Blue Jays, 8-5, in spring training action.

Reliever Shairon Martis gave up another two runs in the third and fourth innings to take the loss. Reliever Evan Meek struggled as well, giving up four runs, three earned, while recording just two outs in the sixth inning.

"We were sloppy," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle told the Associated Press after the game. "Our awareness wasn't where it needs to be to play a game - a major league game, a minor league game or an exhibition. It's a lack of focus."

The Pirates added three errors on the afternoon, further hurting their cause.

Pirates catcher Rod Barajas went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Third baseman Nick Evans hit a solo home run.

The Pirates are 0-2 so far in spring training. They return to the diamond tonight against Baltimore at 7 p.m.
