Pirates' John Wehner: Buccos 'Are Ready For This'
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Hours before Game 1 of the NLDS, Pirates broadcaster John Wehner visits with Vinnie & Cook on Sportsradio 93.7 The Fan.
Wehner was impressed by everything he saw at PNC Park during Tuesday night's Wild Card win over Cincinnati.
"Our guys looked so focused, and their guys looked so overwhelmed," Wehner says. "That tells me they're ready for this. For me, that makes a difference. I think we can outpitch them and I think we can hang with them offensively. If we get the good pitching performances, I think the Pirates win this series."
The Pirates turn to A.J. Burnett to set the tone in Thursday afternoon's series opener in St. Louis.
"A.J. hasn't pitched as well in St. Louis as he has at PNC Park. But he's a big-game pitcher, and I expect him to be at his best. I don't expect needing six runs to win a ballgame tonight. It's going to come down to the opportunities that are given. Runs are going to be at a premium tonight," Wehner says.
Wehner also explains why he is confident that the Pirates' bats can build on the win over Cincinnati, and details what else to watch in this series against the Cardinals.
