Pirates Invite Eight Players To Major League Camp
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to terms with right handed pitcher Wilfredo Boscan and left handed pitcher Charlie Leesman on minor league contract with invites to Major League spring training and have invited six others as well.
The other six players invited are first baseman Stetson Allie, outfielder Keon Broxton, pitcher Tyler Glasnow, infielder Gift Ngoepe, outfielder Mel Rojas Jr. and pitcher Adrian Sampson.
Glasnow has been named the organization's Minor League Pitcher-of-the-Year each of the last two seasons. Last year Glasnow went 12-5 and led the Florida State League with an ERA of 1.74 while making 23 starts with Bradenton in 2014 after going 9-3 with a 2.18 ERA in a career-high 24 starts with West Virginia in 2013. Glasnow has recorded the second-most strikeouts (321) among all minor league pitchers over the last two seasons.
Allie was the Pirates second round selection in the 2010 First-Year Players draft and joined the organization as a pitcher before being moved to the infield. Allie finished second among all farmhands with 21 home runs in 2014 while spending the entire season with Double-A Altoona. His 42 home runs hit over the last two seasons rank second among all Pittsburgh minor league players behind Andrew Lambo.
The Pirates currently have 40 players on their 40-man roster and 21 non-roster players expected to participate in big league camp, which is scheduled to begin February 19 with the first official workout for pitchers and catchers.
