Pirates Inquire With Phillies Regarding Cole Hamels' Availability
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) -- John Perrotto of Baseball Prospectus joined Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93-7 The FAN in Pittsburgh to talk about the Pirates making a move, and if they should look for a bat or more pitching.
When it comes to potential trades for the Pirates, Perrotto told us he can confirm that the Pirates have talked with the Philadelphia Phillies about Starting Pitcher Cole Hamels to see what the asking price would be. Hamels will be a free agent after the season.
We also discussed Pirates prospect Starling Marte's future with the team and what they are waiting to see from him. According to Perrotto, the team was waiting for Marte's plate discipline to improve, and over the last few weeks, it has gotten much better. It appears as though when Marte gets called up, Jose Tabata will be the most likely candidate to get sent down.
We wrapped things up with Perrotto asking him if he believes the Pirates can make the playoffs this year.
