Pirates Fans Revel In Team's Recent Success
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- It feels good to be a Pirate fan these days.
After a dramatic 8-7 win over the Houston Astros, the Pirates are tied for first place and eight games over .500 for the first time since 1992.
Some are calling the Pirates the best story in baseball this season.
"Been following the Pirates since I was 10 years old," Graydon Fischer said. "This is a great reward and it's been a long wait and I hope it lasts."
"It's such a great game, great game last night," added another fan. "The walkoff – you couldn't beat that."
Drew Sutton's ninth-inning homerun put the Pirates over the top Tuesday night. This is the sixth walkoff win for the Buccos this season.
Fans say the team is coming together. Manager Clint Hurdle couldn't agree more.
"There also comes a point in time where a group of men committed to one goal, nobody cares who gets the credit can do some exciting things," he said.
After 19 consecutive losing seasons, longsuffering fans are ready.
"Time will tell, but it looks like this could be the year," Fischer added.
