Pirates Fans Excited About Early Season Success
PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- Pirates fever is starting to grow in Pittsburgh as the team is only two games out of first place.
Last night, the Pirates knocked off the first-place Reds 5-4 in 10 innings to improve to 29-27 this season.
On Friday, fans were lining up outside of PNC Park to snatch up tickets to this weekend's three-game series with the Kansas City Royals (24-31).
While pitching has been consistent all season, the bats are starting to heat up a little bit. So, what's the reason for the Bucs' early season success?
Some fans are crediting manager Clint Hurdle for the turnaround.
"Coaching. Definitely coaching and it has to do with the staff also. Good staff, good team," Jimmy Smith said.
"I just think a stern no nonsense guy and he has these guys working and they respect him." Denny Hamil said.
The Pirates will open up the series with the Royals tonight at 7:05 p.m. The probable pitching matchup will feature Luke Hochevar (3-6, 6.63 ERA) taking on Erik Bedard (3-6, 3.72 ERA).
