Pirates Expected To Make Roster Move
Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pirates bullpen has been shaky the past few games and is likely to undergo some changes today.
For much of this season, the bullpen has been one of the strength's of the 2011 Pirates. As of late, it's look anything but strong.
The team is expected to make a move by sending RHP Mike Crotta back to Indianapolis (AAA) and recall RHP Jose Ascanio.
A decision must be made on Ascanio because he's out of options and his current rehab stint for his shoulder injury is over.
Ascanio was acquired along pitcher Kevin Hart and infielder Josh Harrison from the Chicago Cubs for Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow.
Ascanio is a hard throwing righty but his career has been delayed by numerous injuries.
Crotta, who surprisingly made the team out of spring training, has struggled big-time lately.
Last night vs. the Dodgers, Crotta failed to record an out and allowed 3 hits and 4 runs. The rookie's ERA rose to 9.28.
In other bullpen news, Evan Meek will throw a bullpen session today and plans to travel with the team to Milwaukee on Friday. If everything goes OK, Meek most likely will be sent to one of the club's minor league affiliates for a rehab assignment.
