Pirates Broadcaster John Wehner: 'Pirates Are Expected To Win'
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Pirates Broadcaster John Wehner joined "The Cook and Poni Show" Monday morning from Bradenton.
We are two weeks away from Opening Day and the Pirates are getting some national attention with ESPN Baseball analyst Buster Olney picking them to win the World Series.
"That is a pretty bold prediction," Wehner said. "The Pirates are expected to win. This team is legit. They have the pieces in place to be very successful."
Wehner does have some concern with the Pirates' starting pitching rotation after seeing Charlie Morton get roughed up in his start yesterday.
"I've never seen him get hit like he did yesterday," Wehner said. "He looks healthy, which is good, but the sinker is just not sinking."
Wehner says he feels good with Francisco Liriano and Gerrit Cole at the top of the rotation, but admits he has some concerns with Morton and what A.J. Burnett can offer.
One thing that is not concerning to Wehner is that Andrew McCutchen has been out of the lineup.
Wehner says he is just taking it easy and will not need more than a week of games to be ready. He will be back in tie Pirates' lineup tomorrow.
