Pirates Broadcaster Greg Brown Talks Bucs Finally Getting To Playoffs
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Pirates broadcaster Greg Brown has been around the Buccos since 1994 and has seen plenty of the losing up close, but last night he was able to watch it all come full circle.
Brown joined Starkey, Miller and Mueller to discuss his time around this team, what it was like getting to celebrate the Pirates getting back into the playoffs for the first time since 1992 and if there was ever a time where he thought he might never see this day.
"Oh man, this might have been eight to nine years ago, I had a buddy I met in I think Philadelphia," Brown said. "We went out to dinner, and he was a Phillies fan and he said 'You have to admit to me that the Pirates will never finish .500 or better in your lifetime.' He went verse by verse as to why, the history of the club, looking forward and how they're not going to spend any money. He almost had me convinced and I came close to admitting it. To the credit of these guys starting with Bob Nutting, Frank Coonelly and of course Neal Huntington, they stuck to the plan, and I'm so thankful they did not waiver last year when there were people calling for Neal Huntington's head."
Brown also looked ahead at this teams bullpen situation moving forward with a few signs of wear on them, and who he thinks would get the start if the Pirates end up in a one-game playoff.
