Pirates Beat Reds, 5-3
CINCINATTI (KDKA/AP) -- The Pirates swept their road series against Cincinnati, beating them 5-3 Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates arrived in town with a six-game losing streak and came away with their first series sweep in Cincinnati since 2003.
They did it with pitching – Charlie Morton threw a five-hitter for a 5-0 win in the opener.
James McDonald (3-3, 5.51 ERA) pitched 6 and 2-3 innings, allowing just one run and seven hits. He also threw four strikeouts.
Joel Hanrahan earned the save.
The Pirates finally broke through against Johnny Cueto (2-1), who had won his last seven decisions against them. Ryan Doumit added a solo homer.
The Pirates are second in the majors – behind only Tampa for the most road wins.
