Pirates' Assistant GM Kyle Stark Talks MLB Draft, Taillon's Progress
PITTSBURGH (KDKA 93-7 The Fan) - Pirates Assistant General Manager Kyle Stark joined Chris Mack on Bucco Talk to talk about the recent draft.
"Ultimately, the way we felt like the way the draft fell was to target some position players early. We didn't think there was significant depth there, and then we felt like there was some depth in some college, junior college arms, that we still feel are projectable," Stark said.
Mack asked for an update on pitcher Jameson Taillon.
"Very encouraged. I think that he's done a really good job with this rehab, not only getting back healthy but actually trying to get better as a pitcher through this process and we feel like he's done that," Stark said.
With the trade deadline at the end of July, Stark said that internal discussions happen on a daily basis.
"We are encouraged by the overall depth of our club, but we're always looking for ways to maybe improve it. And we're always looking at where our organizational depth is, and where we feel like we've got maybe some guys where we can use to try to go get somebody to help us win in Pittsburgh and where we have maybe some depth internally to try to impact the major league club. Those conversations are ongoing, they definitely increase as you get closer to the deadline," Stark said.
