Pirates Assistant GM Confident Appel Will Sign With Bucs
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates Assistant General Manager and Director of Player Development, Kyle Stark joined the Fan Morning Show to talk about the Pirates' first-round draft pick, Mark Appel.
Kyle tells the morning show that the team was very excited to see that Appel was available at the No. 8 spot in the draft and did not think twice about taking him. The model, all along, was to take the best player available, which obviously was Appel; a player many believed to be the best player in the draft.
Stark believes that the team and Appel will be able to come to terms on a deal that will sign him out of college and place him into the Pirates' system. Despite concerns about Appel's agent, Scott Boras, Stark tells us that the team has worked with Boras in the past, and they will be able to agree on what is fair for both the player and the team.
We also hear about last season's first-round pick, Gerritt Cole's development, and Stetson Allie's transformation from pitcher to position player.
