Pirates Also Miss Out On Rays Starter David Price

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - When the Oakland Athletics swooped in and traded for Red Sox ace Jon Lester, reports came out that the Pirates were working on a trade to try and acquire Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price.

Just minutes before the trade deadline though, word came out that the Rays, Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners worked out a three-team deal to send Price to the Tigers.

According to reports, the Tigers received David Price, while the Rays received starting pitcher Drew Smyly, Infielder Nick Franklin and highly regarded Single-A SS Willy Adames, a highly regarded prospect in the Tigers organization, while the Mariners received Austin Jackson.

With the Pirates missing out on Price and Lester, it appears as though they came up empty at the trade deadline despite reports that they were in on a number of different players.

It was after the non-waiver trade deadline that the Pirates made moves last year though where they brought in outfielder Marlon Byrd and first baseman Justin Morneau, so there's still time for the organization to improve the team on the field as it stands today.
