Pirates Agree To 2-Year Deal With Francisco Liriano
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pirates reportedly have another starting pitcher.
Reports out of Minnesota say former All-Star lefty Francisco Liriano has agreed on a two-year, $14 million deal with the Pirates.
Liriano had a disastrous start last season before rebounding mid-summer with a run that reminded everyone that the 29-year-old's electric stuff is still in there.
But there are question marks about which Liriano the Pirates will be getting.
He still has the stuff to rack up a ton of strikeouts. The problem has been with control.
Liriano has recently averaged around five walks per start as he dropped from 14-10 with a 3.62 ERA in 2010 to 15-22 with an ERA over five the last two seasons.
The two-year deal was a short enough term for the Pirates to take a shot at an A.J. Burnett-style comeback from Liriano.
