The Pirates have claimed relievers Chan Ho Park and Chris Resop off waivers.
Park, 37, was used as a reliever with the New York Yankees although the majority of his career has been spent as a starter. His 29 appearances yielded a 5.60 ERA in 35 1/3 innings to go along with 29 strikeouts and 12 walks. Park is signed to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million, but the Pirates are only required to pay $407,000.
Chris Resop, 27, was claimed from the Atlanta Braves, where he was used as a starter with Triple-A affiliate, Gwinnett. He's made 58 major-league appearances over five seasons. Resop's 2009 season was spent in Japan. A strained oblique landed him on the disabled list in mid-June and was put on waivers following 4 starts with Gwinnett.
Steven Jackson was designated for assignment to clear space on the 25-man and 40-man roster for Resop. Another pitcher must be moved today to make space for Park.
