Pirate Fever Spreading As Bucs Prepare For Game 3
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – As the Bucs prepare for Game 3 against St. Louis, Pirate fever is taking the region by storm.
Nowhere was it more apparent than in the line of people waiting to buy playoff tickets at PNC Park.
"Let's go Bucs, let's get this line moving," said Pirates fan Rege Goob. "We've been here since eight o'clock this morning. We came to the Wild Card game – best game I've ever been to. Pittsburgh fans are the best to be able go to the NLCS, right now, can't beat it."
"Feels great," said fan Randy Cirelli. "Was at the '79 playoffs and World Series, the playoffs in '90. '92. Been a long time."
It's hoped that fans at Game 3 will recapture the passion and electricity from the first playoff game. In a huge display of support, they were the 10th man and wearing a Pirate Jerseys in a blackout.
"It's impactful," said Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle. "It was as loud a crowd as I've heard. Been to a lot of loud places."
The last time we heard "The Bucs are going all the way" was in the 1992 NLCS game, when they lost to Atlanta.
Former Pirate pitcher and Cy Young Award winner, Doug Drabek, was a member of that team.
He just wants them to go all the way.
"It doesn't matter who they play, as long as they can keep moving forward," Drabek said. "I imagine, for some people, they may want to see them back against the Braves and it will be 21-year revenge."
Like those teams from the '90s, Drabek likes 2013 Pirates' chances.
"I think I see that here, where they're playing as a team," Drabek said. "They're believing in each other, which is big."
Fans also believe the Bucs will get to the big dance.
"Pirates are going all the way," said fan Joseph Cheirpka. "World Series and I'm going all the way with them."
