Pine Richland Student Selected For FBI Training Program
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A surprise visit from the FBI shocked students at Pine Richland High School Wednesday morning.
However, the federal agents had their eyes on a very special sophomore.
It's an honor of a lifetime for Jennifer Lott, who was one of only 60 teens from across the country to be specially selected by the FBI to take part in a youth training program.
It's no easy feat in Quantico, Va., as men and women are pushed to their limits at the FBI's National Academy.
"It's a really great opportunity and I was really excited when I found out," Jennifer Lott said.
"These students are the best of the best. And there's only 60 of them that are [going to] be down there in Quantico, going through essentially a mini National Academy," Ken Truver with the western Pa. chapter of the FBI National Academy said.
During a school awards ceremony Wednesday morning, it was announced that Jennifer Lott was picked for the program.
Lott had to go through an intimidating application and interview process and was chosen because of her grades, community involvement and a positive review by law enforcement.
Her father, who went through the National Academy, couldn't be more proud.
"It's a great accomplishment because the top five-percent of law enforcement only selected to go down there worldwide. So, I was honored to go back in '07 and I feel privileged that she was selected to go," Bert Lott said.
There will be physical challenges and lessons on law, justice and leadership, which is something Jennifer is looking forward to.
"I'm big on leadership. I'm a big part of student government at my school and I just wanted to take this great opportunity to strengthen my leadership skills," Jennifer Lott said.
Jennifer will leave on June 20 and spend eight days with the FBI.
However, her work won't be done. When she gets home, she'll have to report back to the FBI about her experience in Virginia.
