Person Found Dead At Hill District Playground

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Homicide detectives are investigating after a young man was found dead at a Hill District playground.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers were called to the 600-block of Wandless Street just before 11:30 a.m. for a report of gunfire.

The body of the 23-year-old victim was found on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 23-year-old Jewell Shelby, Jr.

Family members say friends called him Shells. Now, they are beginning the grieving process.

"I just wish whoever done it, they don't do it to nobody else," Carl Jordan, the victim's uncle, said. "My nephew is gone, there's nothing we can do about that. He's gone, and you know, my heart is with my sister now because she's going to take it hard."

"It's something we've got to deal with," Sandy Jordan, the victim's mother, added. "We're dealing with life period, we live to die, but when you take somebody's child's life, it's cold."

Police say they have not made any arrests in the case; however, multiple shell casings were found.

They also spent the afternoon interviewing people in the neighborhood.

Anyone with information on the case is being asked to contact the Pittsburgh Police Homicide unit at 412-323-7161.
