Gudbranson is signed for $4 million per year through 2021. In 57 games this season, he has two goals and eight points and is a minus-27.
"He's a real heart and soul guy," Penguins GM Jim Rutherford said of Gudbranson. "He can protect our players. He puts us in a stronger position to push back when we get into more physical games."
Pearson joined the Penguins in November when he was acquired for forward Carl Hagelin in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings.

Wideman, who was sent to AHL Wilkes/Barre, was acquired for AHL forward Jean-Sebastien Dea.
"He gives us depth on defense," Rutherford said on Wideman. "He's a smaller guy, a puck moving guy. He has played some games in the league, he's got some experience."
Also Monday, the Penguins have recalled defenseman Zach Trotman. Rutherford said Trotman will play Tuesday while Gudbranson will not be available until his immigration paperwork is processed.
