Pens Sign Kobasew To 1-Year Deal, Recall Bennett
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – With the start of the regular season just a day away, the Penguins continue to tinker with their roster.
According to their official website, the Penguins have signed winger Chuck Kobasew to a one-year deal worth $550,000.
Kobasew was invited to camp on a tryout contract and performed quite well during the preseason. While he scored two goals, he showed he could be effective no matter where he was inserted in the lineup.
The 31-year-old has played in 568 games over 10 years in the NHL and has racked up 108 goals to go along with 100 assists.
Prior to coming to Pittsburgh, Kobasew spent time in Boston, Calgary, Colorado and Minnesota.
Kobasew has reached the 20-goal mark in a season three times (2005-06, 2007-08 and 2008-09). He also posted a career-high 42 points with the Bruins in 2008-09.
In addition to the Kobasew signing, the Penguins made a couple of other minor roster moves.
To no one's surprise, the Penguins recalled Beau Bennett from the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.
Chris Conner and Harrison Ruopp have also been reassigned to the team's AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton.
Pittsburgh also placed Matt D'Agostini on injured reserve.
