Pens' Prospect Named To Canadian WJC Roster
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - One of the Pittsburgh Penguins' top prospects has been named to a prestigious team.
Former first-round pick Simon Despres has been named to Team Canada's roster for the upcoming 2011 World Junior Championships. This tournament will take place Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Penguins drafted Despres in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft (30th overall).
The 19-year-old, who is currently playing for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, has 26 points (9 goals and 17 assists) and a plus-19 rating through 22 games.
Despres is expected to compete for a spot on the Penguins' defense next season.
