Pens' Letang To Face Hearing, Strait Recalled
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – As if the Penguins were not already playing shorthanded, they could potentially be without a star defenseman for at least Tuesday's game against the Minnesota Wild.
During Monday's 2-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, Kris Letang delivered a check from behind to Alex Burmistrov.
The result of the play was a two-minute minor penalty for boarding, but supplemental discipline could be on the way.
According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the NHL has scheduled a disciplinary hearing with Letang to discuss the hit.
Should the league levy a suspension, the Penguins will be put in a tough position.
Sidney Crosby, Dustin Jeffrey, Evgeni Malkin and Brooks Orpik did not accompany the team on this two-game road trip.
Tyler Kennedy was also held out of Tuesday's game due to concussion-like symptoms.
A suspension for Letang would leave the Penguins with five defensemen. However, the Penguins announced on their website that they have recalled defenseman Brian Strait from their AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
In five games with the Baby Pens, Strait has one goal and three assists this season.
