Pens Fall To Islanders, 2-1 In Shootout

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (KDKA/AP) -- After a run that started in November, Sidney Crosby was shut down in the Penguins' 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Islanders, ending his 25-game point streak Wednesday night.

The run, in which Crosby had 26 goals and 24 assists, was the longest in the NHL since Quebec's Mats Sundin had a 30-game streak during the 1992-93 season.

The game was clearly a defensive battle with neither team scoring in the first and third periods or in overtime.

The Pens outshot the Islanders 38 to 26, but Rick DiPietro made 37 saves.

New York's Josh Bailey got a wrist shot past Marc-Andre Fleury, who had 25 saves for the night, to make it 1-0 just 34 seconds into the second period.

Chris Conner scored about 16 minutes later after banging home a rebound off a shot by Tyler Kennedy.

The teams were tied 2-2 through three shootout rounds. P.A. Parenteau put the Islanders ahead by scoring off a speedy rush on Fleury, and DiPietro sealed New York's rare win over Pittsburgh by stopping Mark Letestu.
