Pennsylvania Primary Just 6 Weeks Away
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- In just six weeks, voters across Pennsylvania will head to the polls to pick party nominees in this year's General Election.
There are only two state-wide judicial races in 2011.
Republicans will choose between Vic Stabile and Paula Patrick to take on Democrat David Wecht for the Superior Court.
Two Republicans, Paul Panepinto and Anne Covey and two Democrats, Kathryn Boockvar and Barbara Ernsberger will battle for one seat on Commonwealth Court.
Most of the races this spring and fall are in county, municipal and school districts where voters are most impacted in services and taxes.
The hottest race is for Allegheny County Executive where both parties are looking for nominees to replace retired executive Dan Onorato.
Democrats will choose between County Controller Mark Flaherty and Former County Council President Rich Fitzgerald while Republicans pick between former Councilman Chuck McCullough and Mt. Lebanon Commissioner D. Raja.
In Westmoreland County, five Democrats are going at it for two slots: Incumbent-appointed Commissioner Ted Kopas, former Rep. John Pallone, Mt. Pleasant Mayor Gerald Lucia, South Greensburg Councilwoman Linda Iezzi and South Greensburg resident Virginia Oplinger.
In Washington County, seven Democrats are running for two slots: Incumbent Commissioner Larry Maggi, Washington Councilman Joe Manning, Labor Leader Wayne Watson, Chartiers Supervisor Harlan Shober, North Strabane Supervisor Greg Sulak, Attorney John Petrisek and Coal Center President Randy Barli.
There are fewer Republican Primary contests in these counties. Besides these county races, five of nine Pittsburgh City Council positions are on the ballot with every incumbent seeking reelection being challenged.
The primary is on May 17.
