PennDot Unveils Major Route 51 – Route 88 Road Project
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – PennDot unveiled its plan for one of the largest road projects of the next two years.
More than 42-thousand drivers a day will be affected as the intersection of Route 51 and Route 88 in the South Hills is reconstructed.
Drivers say this 51-88 light is the achilles heal of South Hills commuters, they spend hours at the light.
"The traffic is a nightmare, and hopefully this will be a temporary inconvenience for long term improvements," Lynn Calgelia said.
Even as major reconstruction begins, there will be two lanes north and two lanes south.
But PennDot says in May of 2015 there will be a four-and-a-half month closure in the northbound direction.
