PennDOT To Route 28 Drivers: Watch For Changing Lanes
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The scope of the road project on Route 28 is a challenge for PennDOT, but drivers should see some progress soon.
As the work rolls on near the 40th Street Bridge, PennDOT's Jim Struzzi is talking about the difficulties of coordinating a massive construction project while keeping three of the lanes open.
"We still have some challenges with people who enter the work zone and don't follow the signs, don't adhere to the traffic patterns we'd like them to," he said.
This latest phase hasn't impacted the way inbound traffic heads to town, but outbound drivers have had to deal with only one lane from the 31st to 40th Street bridges. While crews have been working near the 40th Street Bridge, that zone will soon move down the road.
In the meantime, PennDOT is warning drivers to keep an eye out for changing lanes and conditions.
"Some people still believe that they can get up on the 40th Street Bridge and that has created some safety concerns," Struzzi says, "so we do want to emphasize to motorists who are traveling on northbound Route 28 that they need to stay to the right – stay to the far right – the northbound direction traveling under the 40th Street Bridge until you get through that interchange."
