PennDOT: Thanksgiving Is Worst Holiday For Crashes
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Holiday drivers should be extra cautious on the road this year.
Thanksgiving Day is actually the worst time of year for crashes.
Last year, 4,200 crashes happened over the holiday, according to PennDOT.
Additionally, it also says 49 people were killed.
That's compared to just 2,000 crashes and 19 deaths during last year's Christmas and New Year's travel season.
However, this year PennDOT and police are trying to combat the holiday crashes with "Operation Safe Holiday."
The new operation campaigns for seatbelt enforcement, sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols.
