PennDOT Launches New YouTube Page
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – "When you're driving, distractions are everywhere, whether we welcome them or not."
That's a quote from a new video warning about the dangers of distracted driving, which is one of more than a dozen videos already posted on PennDOT's new YouTube page, which just launched this week.
"Everyone uses transportation one way or another, this is just one means for you to get valuable information on what's happening within our system," said Steve Cowan with PennDOT.
The videos cover a wide range of topics from motorcycle safety, to the importance of seatbelts, to bicycle laws.
"When riding, I specifically choose bright colors, motorists need to see me and speaking of seeing when I ride at night," a bicyclist says in one of the videos. "I'm required to have a headlamp."
There's even time-lapse video of crews working on Rt. 81 in Harrisburg after a fiery tanker crash back on May 9.
"That was an amazing event and I think that people are interested in things of that nature and this is a way for us to show that the transportation system is valuable obviously to everyone," Cowan said.
PennDOT officials with District 11 here in Pittsburgh say they hope to soon add videos specific to our region.
"We have a video ready to go on litter control, we have a new round about in Beaver County that added some confusion for motorists," Cowan said. "I think it would be a good idea to put information out there, snow when winter time comes around, how to properly drive in snow and obviously on my end, safety videos, showing people what they should and should not be doing."
